Surprise! It’s not a bill
Thanks to a new law banning surprise medical bills, healthcare in the US is now simpler and less expensive. Before this, you could receive treatment at a hospital within your insurance network, only to get a bill stating you owe money for services from out-of-network doctors. This was especially common in emergency rooms, where patients rarely have the option or ability to be selective about the treatment they receive. Such bills are now illegal. As long as you choose an in-network doctor, you will only pay the normal fees according to your insurance plan. This is a big win for all patients, though it’s worth noting it does not include ambulance fees.
